My name is Paul Ambrose. I began fishing at the age of three, instantly falling in love with the sport and have made it and the outdoors my passion ever since. My passion began in a near by pond where I spent every minute possible Trout fishing. By the age of ten, we moved to the country and were fortunate enough to live on the East Fork of the Lewis River. Between the age of ten and sixteen I spent over 200 days a year below my house catching many species of fish. When I turned fifteen my first boat was used primarily for Salmon, Steelhead and Sturgeon on the Columbia. For the past thirteen years I have honed my skills on the river and know it like the back of my hand. Fishing is far beyond a passion for me, its a way of life and I love every second if it. I recently invited my good friend and guide Darren Hoberg to join my "team". Between the two of us we have over 30 years of fishing experience and we offer a wide array of trips throughout the state. Whether you want to catch Salmon, Steelhead or Sturgeon on the Columbia or Willamette, or want to take a scenic drift-boat trip on any of the premier coastal streams, "Team" Great Nw Rivers can make that trip a reality. We use top of the line gear and bait including Willie and Koffler boats, St Croix and Lamiglass rods, Shimano and Okuma reels and Pro-Cure scents. When you hire us for your next fishing adventure, we will guarantee you a fun filled trip with guides that work harder then anyone to ensure your enjoyment, safety and success on the water. We take great pride in providing professional guide services, and would be privileged to earn your business. We want to establish long lasting relationships with You. Both Darren and I are on numerous major manufacturer Pro Staffs and have been featured on Anglers West TV. I also have had articles published in the "Fish Sniffer" California's largest fishing publication. When you are ready for the fishing adventure of a lifetime, give us a call or email and we will make that adventure a reality!
Hi, I am Darren Hoberg, I have been fishing the northwest since I was five and I am now 26. I have been guiding since 2006 and love every minute of it. I am not here to just to take you out fishing and catch you some fish, but I am here to teach to you tehniques to make you a better fisherman in your future, and to show a great time on the water catching fish. I am a licensed captain with the Coast Guard. I basically cover everything from drift boat to sled trips. My drift boat trips usually start the first of October and we are chasing kings and silvers with float and eggs and plugs and spinners on the coast. I fish the Humptulips, Satsop, Chehalis, and other Olympic Peninsula streams. We usually chase Salmon in the drift boat till about the end of November, then its Winter steelhead time. I will fish for winter Steelhead in the drift boat till about the first of March. We target the hatchery fish on the Wynoochee, Humptulips, Satsop through mid January and side drifting is my technique of choice, then I will start my catch and release season on Native Steelhead through the first of March. Once March rolls around, its time to fire the sled back up. In March I will be side drifting the Cowlitz river for its spring hatchery steelhead run and this is a action packed fishery, you don't want to miss out on this fishery. From the end of the March through mid May is time chasing the world famous spring chinook. I fished the main stem Columbia till the closure date, I target these fish either trolling or anchor fishing with kwikfish. Then I will move to the tributaries to finish the season fishing springers. By the first of June I will move back to the Columbia and target the Summer Chinook, by anchor fishing with kwikfish, these fish by far are the hardest fighters pound for pound and will definitely test your stamina. From the end of June through the first of August is my Columbia River summer steelhead season, and this is my favorite season of them all. Nice weather and tons of hook ups every day. We anchor fish with plugs, spinners and bait. Nothing like knowing hundreds of steelhead swimming under your boat everyday. Mid August through the first two weeks in September is my Astoria season. I troll herring for these ocean fresh kings and silvers. This is a non stop action packed fishery. With double digits being the norm. This fishery also offers you the chance to catch that king of a life time. Once this fishery slows down, I will move up river and anchor fish with wobblers for the kings. Then before I know it, I am back to my drift boat chasing these fall salmon in the tributaries.
